I tried the Yopokki Black Bean Flavor and It Is Good!!



Here's a review on the Yopokki Black Soy Bean as well as my personal cooking suggestion to best appreciate this instant tteokbokki!


I came across yet another flavor on the Instant Tteokbokki line! This time allow me to introduce to you: The Yopokki Black Soy Bean flavor. The same rice cake goodness that you can cook in a flash!

The Yopokki Black Soy Bean is interestingly good. Not your usual cheesy or spicy flavor but it does come off as a nice variation to your tteokbokki snack.

I started with dissolving the flavor mix into 20mL of water and brought this to a boil. Once it started boiling, I added the rice cakes. Then I set the timer to 3 minutes at 120 degrees celsius. Covered the pan and let it simmer. That's all you need and it is done!
It is surprisingly sweet. I usually expect Black Bean flavor to be salty but this one tastes like sweet pepper soy flavor. It tastes good, but I was just expecting it to be salty.

Now I promised you a cooking suggestion and here it is! I cooked sukiyaki-cut beef with a few drops of the same Yopokki Sauce. I added this cooked meat as a topper. On the side, I had Doenjang and Gochujang. I also chopped some red bell peppers and tomatoes, then cooked them in Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Himalayan Salt. All this bumped up my Yopokki Black Bean Meal!

I am afraid that without the Doenjang and my salty bell pepper and tomato concoction, I will not be able to appreciate this flavor.  It is good on its own if you are the type who loves sweet meals. As for me, I am still expecting any black bean flavor to be salty, so I had prepared some extenders for your consideration.

For the verdict: this is not your average Black Bean flavor but it does help to add variety to your ordinary tteokbokki. I for one welcome this change. Life is not always as cheesy as you want it to be, so what better way but to try new things from time to time!
